Looking for Blue Devils

I know I have said it before, but I can’t talk enough about how fortunate I am to be able to travel to different places and meet people from all over the country for my career. A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to visit Duke Gardens in Durham, NC. This place is a photographers paradise. There are tons of little “nooks-and-crannies” for anyone who is a shutterbug to get lost in. During my few hours there, I did run across a few other photographers, but the place is so large and there is so much going on that you can definitely work your way around everyone.

The first time I traveled to Durham and the Duke Campus was shortly after I graduated from WVU. I moved to Raleigh for a job in sales and my call sheet took me to Durham. One day I figured since I was in the area, I would drive around Duke’s campus for a few minutes during lunch to check it out. Once you enter into the “world of Duke” you can‘t stop looking around. The buildings are very quaint and a lot of the architecture is amazing. I really liked how visually stimulating the campus was, and at the time I had no idea how much I would enjoy taking photos there.

Lauren and Matt brought up doing engagement photos at Duke Gardens when we first met last fall and I jumped on board with the idea immediately. Anytime I get a chance to shoot someplace new and interesting, I’m all in. And with visiting the campus a few years ago, I had an idea of how awesome the shoot would turn out to be.

We spent most of our time running through the gardens capturing images and ended the evening just after dusk at Duke Chapel. This was the first time I had actually made my way to see the Chapel. It is breathtaking. As your driving up the road to get to the Chapel you come around a turn and “bam” – it’s right there standing tall right over you. Anyone in the Raleigh/Durham area should ride over and just drive around the campus to check it out. It’s worth the trip. I’m really looking forward to getting the opportunity to shoot at the campus again, whether it be an engagement, bridal or wedding.
